WestKnits Stash Acquistion

It’s a WestKnits kinda weekend around here.  I kicked it off with some WestKnits Stash acquisition.  Not acquiring stash for WestKnits patterns, no acquiring Mr. West’s actual stash.

I couldn’t resist when this popped up yesterday.  It’s a project bag.  (Just this week, I was noticing all my project bags are full.  After a long dip, my WIP count is back to 10.  Don’t worry, I love it.)  It’s a book.  (The one I don’t have.  What are the odds of that?)  and it’s at least 400 g of Stephen’s destashed yarn.  I appreciate his tastes in color and fiber so I think I’ll like whatever I get.

Especially now that I’ve made my next Speckled, Faded, Dotted Rays decision!

We’ve grown from the Hedgehog Skinny Singles Boombox and now faded into the Western Sky Knits Magnolia Sock with No Name.  (so glad there’s no desert here.)

So far I’m loving what’s going on!

The next fade is going to have a bit more zing.  I can’t wait!  Who knows, maybe this mystery yarn will show up from Stephen and it’ll be the perfect thing.  It’s simply fate working it’s magic.  (totally not my fault when it goes wrong either.)

Stay tuned for progress, I think this one is going to proceed quickly!

Stitches West 2017

Yay for Stitches!  After missing it last year, I returned this year on a mission!  It was a challenge but I waited until the very last day to attend.  It was perfect for avoiding the crowd!  Sunday means no problems parking, no waiting in line to get in, no waiting in line with the vendors.  Yes, it was perfect.

In three short hours, I managed to shop for this year and make up for last year’s lack of a shopping spree!

Clearly, I had a color theme.  And I even bought pink???  It seems protest season is upon us and I really need a pussyhat.  There’s Hedgehog Fibers, White Birch, Magpie, Primrose and Western Sky Knits in that pile.  I have no idea what I’m going to do with it, but it’s going to be awesome, whatever it is.

I did go for one neutral…

…and I got two slub skeins of bare yarn.  Only $20 from Anzula…it’s an amazing MCN.  I’m gonna send it to my mom so she can dye it!  I’m sure she can cover those little slubs and it will be a truly amazing MCN!!

I found a few cute accessories too!  I spotted these from across the aisle and knew they were mine!

And this…

Now for the hard part…waiting to cast something on.  It’s still Finish it February for two more days.  I finished my sweater!!!  I even wore it to Stitches…more details on that later this week!

And so, for two more days, I can stay true to no extraneous cast ons.

I need time to wind and plan anyhow!  Just winding those pretties is going to be fun!

So, yes, Stitches West 2017 was a success!  I’m plotting for next year already!  :)

WIP Wednesday: Exploration Continuation

The last time I shared this project it was Stitch n Pitch and I managed to run out of yarn before the game even started!  D’oh!  I tried to get more locally, no luck.  It’s Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK, which turns out to be a discontinued yarn.  I was able to find a couple stashes for sale on Ravelry that even matched the correct dye lot!  WHOOOO!  The excitement was short lived.  Unfortunately, those Ravelers never returned my messages.  That left me two choices…frog the whole thing or add more colors.  Being a Stephen West based project, add more colors was really the only choice!

During last week’s field trip to Monarch Knitting, I found one lone skein of Western Sky Knits Sequoia DK in color Spring Greens.  I didn’t have my WIP to do a side by side color comparison but I liked the color enough to wing it.  So far, I’m pleased with it!

I wanted to use up as much of the dark grey as possible so I’m striping the current wedge.  The next wedge will be all light grey and the wedge after that will be all green.  I think I’ll be ready to end it about then, I’m thinking some kind of yellow & green stripes for a border.  It’s going to depend on how much yarn I’ve got left at that point.

And of course, it depends on how I like it as it progresses.  I’m undecided.  Part of what makes WestKnits’ designs work for me is the kitchen sink approach.  Throw it all in and it works.  I’ve barely made it into the kitchen.  I’ve throw in that cabinet from the corner, haven’t made it around to the sink just yet.  Maybe I need more colors??!?!
