FO Friday – Instant Classic

IMG_8079

The second in my pair of Dotted Rays is now finished!  This is my sixth Dotted Rays so obviously, I like this pattern.  My most worn project of 2017 was this Dotted Rays…

I knit many shawls a year, it’s pretty unusual for one to be my favorite for so long.  That prompted me to start a new ‘favorite’.  You can’t guarantee something will become a favorite but I stacked the deck as much as I could.  I picked a pattern I love wearing and knitting equally and I picked all my favorite colors from the stash.  It turns out, setting yourself up for success really works!

Judging by the number of pictures alone, this has to be a favorite.  I just couldn’t stop.

I’m sure it helped that Golden Gate Park is dressed in gorgeous spring green this week!

And now, it’s time for the weekend! After being virtually monogamous with the Dotted Rays, I plan on fraternizing with ALL the knits the weekend!  My old pal crochet might even get involved!

Happy Friday!  Hope you’re looking forward to your weekend as well!

Still not done

2017-05-09_17-04-05_185

My latest shawl is off the needles!  The ends aren’t woven but I’m wearing it anyhow!  I need to come up with a trick to motivate myself into getting that particular chore done.

Apparently, as a wee lass, my Mom used M&M’s as a potty training aid.  I vaguely remember that.  Or rather, I remember eating one M&M at a time, for many different reasons, none of which is really clear.  I remember those delicious chocolate moments though.  Mmmmmm.

M&M’s might be the key here.  One M&M for every end I weave?  Yeah…I think that could work, especially if I upgrade to peanut M&M’s.  Mom’s no dummy…she knew what she was doing!

This thing is going to be huge once it’s blocked!  I can’t wait!

Although, now that it’s off the needles, my modifications don’t stand out much.  Blocking will help but the lesson here is:  Go Big!  There’s no such thing as going too big when it comes to knitting big scrappy shawls.  I could have put many more giant eyelets along the bottom edge and the ripple along the top edge could definitely have been more pronounced.

Not complaining, just noting the lessons I’ve learned for the next one.   Always got the next one in mind…

FO Haturday

FO Friday has poor timing.  It’s not my fault I can’t follow convention!  If Friday had a different place on the calendar, FO Friday would totally be a thing around here.  Instead, I’ve got FO Haturday!  And, I’ve decided to not stop knitting hats!

I grabbed all the Highland Duo, Cascade’s 70 Alpaca/30 Merino blend, in the stash and this is what happened.  I wasn’t sure the colors were going to  work but I’m pleased.  Along the way, I decided this hat should really have a little bill on it.   I want it to be brown, which means that’s the color I’m out of, naturally.   I’m gonna think on it for a bit.

Inspector Rocky thinks the choices are so egregious he refuses to participate in the discussion any longer.  He’s never been that helpful, anyway.

The hat train waits for no feline!  The next hat is already in progress and it’s gonna be good!!!  It’s something I’ve wanted to do for several years now!  And the hat after that has been plucked from the stash as well.   Stashbusting WOOOO!

WIP Wednesday: Dotted Rays

My second Dotted Rays has been on the back burner while I work on the Rhinebeck Sweater.  What started as a momentary pause in the Rhinebeck action has become a full on diversion…two pairs of fingerless mitts, a hat that I didn’t even mean to knit and a nearly finished Dotted Rays.  I can’t stop now.  This Dotted Rays will be done shortly.  It started off as a stash-buster, looking like this…

This is what’s left of that pile today…almost gone!

I thought, maybe, a work-in-progress shot would be nice.  I thought, maybe, Rocky might like to help, he’s been well behaved and mellow all morning.

I should have known that meant he was holding back his inner hellcat for just the right moment.  This moment right here…

Followed closely by this moment…

I don’t think that’s what he expected, either.  That was the end of that, though.  Dotted Rays went off to lay by itself after that.

I really mean it today when I say the Rhinebeck Sweater is going back on the needles.  I leave in 23 days!  It’s now or never!, (maybe tomorrow?)
