WIP Wednesday — A Rhinebeck Sweater

I didn’t expect to have a Rhinebeck Sweater this year because I didn’t expect to go to Rhinebeck again but…img_0007

I’ve already got a sweater on the needles, so might as well dub it a Rhinebeck Sweater and head east!  :)  No, actually, I just found a deal on airfare I couldn’t pass up…$317, non-stop, round trip on Virgin!  I haven’t flown coast to coast that cheap in years!  It was just too good to pass up, so Rhinebeck…here I come!

As for the sweater, I’m making progress on the raglan increases!  The pattern is Sabine from CoCoKnits.  A repeat of this sweater I made last year…

It’s got all sort of details I like…top down raglan with YO increases (we can pretend they’re decorative but mostly, I’m lazy when it comes to M1R & M1L), half sleeves, light as a feather.   And I was happy with the mods I made, the original has a bell sleeve that I eliminated.  Also left out some eyelet detailing on the back.

It should be an easy knit!  I’m not usually one for repeating things but this is just the perfect little sweater!  It was a natural match when I saw the yarn (Lace Lux from Lana Grossa).   So now, just keep knitting, which is never a problem for me!

A Tale of Two Swatches.

It’s time to prepare for the Ravellenic Games (the knitting olympics, for those not in the know)!  My event is the ‘Sweater Triathlon’.  Yes, that means I’m going to knit an entire sweater in 17 days.  I want a sweater.  I have yarn for sweaters.  I have sweater patterns in mind.  I just finished a whole bunch of WIPs.  The time is right.

Option #1

The yarn is Lace Lux, same as the scarf I just finished.  The pattern is Sabine.  A repeat of this beauty…

I really want to wear that sweater!  Just not sure I want to knit it in 17 days.  Even on a size 6, that’s a lot of stitches.  So…

Option #2

Chunky yarn on size 11 needles.  Now that seems reasonable!  The pattern I’ve got in mind is Stephen West’s Outer Space.  It’s got the classic WestKnits’ wedge & stripe construction so even if I don’t like wearing it, I’m going to like knitting it.

I get to stashbust a little.  I’m throwing in the leftovers from the cardigan I knit in January. I think this is the plan.  With only 17 days to execute, it’s good to have a plan.

Cast on is one week from tomorrow…theoretically, I’m continuing my WIP knitdown until then.  I may crack though.  It’s hard to not cast on.  Amirite?  I’m gonna try.  I’ll keep you posted!

Secret Knitting

It may appear that I’m not doing much knitting these days.  Don’t worry–I absolutely am!  I just can’t share it.  It’s secret knitting time here at FogKnits Headquarters!  Enough said, eh?

Here’s the pile I can talk about!  The changes are rather invisible over the last two weeks though.  On the left, my entrelac-esque crochet shawl, it’s growing but the rows are so long at this point, you don’t see the progress.  Hundreds of crochet stitches take a LONG time!

On the right, my Rockefeller shawl, stalled after clue 2, excited to get back to it shortly!

In the middle, my planned pooling scarf, it’s been on the back burner, untouched for a year until last week.  I don’t know what possessed me to pick it up last week, guilt probably.  I managed some small dents in it last week, adding about 6 inches, you can’t tell at all though.  I’ve gotta add about 4 feet before that sucker starts to look much different!  The slog continues.

And, on the top,  I bought yarn for my next sweater.  (because I really need to BUY yarn!  yeah right.)  No sweater making until the secret knitting is done though, so far I’m holding strong.  I’m going to make another Sabine.  I couldn’t resist the shiny purple!  I may cave in and swatch this week.  It’s shiny AND purple after all…
