AFO Friday*

*That’s ALMOST finished object!

2017-11-01_21-36-41_429

Professor Meow (the second) is rapidly nearing completion!  Just seaming and assorted finishing left to do!

The best news…it fits!

2017-11-01_21-34-24_499

For the first sweater, I knit close to the suggested gauge.  For the second sweater, I decided instead of going up a pattern size, I’d just go up a couple needles sizes!  The results are exactly what I wanted!  I love when the plan works out!

And it’s Friday too!  Woooo!

WIP Wednesday Photo Dump

As usual, it’s Wednesday and I have more works in progress than hands to work on them.   My cat sweater is still a WIP but it’s approaching FO status rapidly.

2017-11-01_07-12-55_342

The first time around, I forgot a bit of sleeve shaping.  Happy to say, this time I remembered to shape the appropriate places and the face is far less wonky now.  Just a couple rows more and a bit of neck shaping before I can begin seaming!  The weather is perfect for the sweater right now so I’m hoping to stay focused!

It’s tough with this box of beauties though…

Mom dyed me some yarn for my birthday!  It’s all amazing!  The two little balls are a merino/silk/yak blend.  Soon to be a hat I think.

The barber pole yarn is super fun too…it’s a 4 ply wool, 3 regular plies and one superwash ply.  Turns out the superwashing process effects the way wool takes dye so you get this cool marled effect with one color of dye.   The electric blue is so striking!  I can’t wait to use it!

The piece de resistance, though, is this great big hank of alpaca…

I love everything about it…the colors, the speckling, the softness.  Mom tried something new with this one — Ice Dying.   You put your yarn underneath a large mass of ice, sprinkle the dye on top of the ice and as the ice melts, the dye drips down randomly.   I don’t know if I actually have the patience to dye that way but I’m really glad Mom did.  At the bare minimum, I’ve gotta swatch with this yarn soon.  It’s definitely going to become something special.

Of course, the real reason I’m trying to avoid the siren song of new yarn, I need to get moving on the Bill Murray Sweater.

You see, Bill Murray is currently touring with a band.  I have this big portrait of Bill that I knit a few years back.  I also have tickets to the Bill Murray tour.   It’s time to put my money where my mouth is.

I’ve pulled a selection of yarns from the stash and I’ve decided on a plan.  I just need to put the plan into action.  I’ve got five weeks.  It’s time to stop procrastinating.

Really, that means step away from the cross stitching.  I finished this little hoop, an ode to Warren Zevon and the werewolves of London.

2017-10-27_21-32-51_972

It was an irresistible idea.  I got it out of my system.  I’ve cleared the path for the Bill Murray sweater.  It’s time.  I’ve got laser focus.  I’m making it happen.

Just as soon as I finish the Cat Sweater.   (you had to know that was coming.  lol.  fingers crossed they’ll both be finished soon because in reality, it’s November.  It’s time for the Christmas knitting freakout. Ugh!)

WIP Wednesday – Cat Sweater #2

You can say a lot of things about Professor Meow but one thing is certain…He’s a happy fellow!

2017-08-09_06-49-22_209

I started with this back this time around.  It’s now done and I’ve moved on to the front!  It should be ready for assembly soon, assuming I don’t get distracted by a new project. (What the Fade?  I’m talking about you! August 31st is a long way off…I bet I can finish this by then.  **Knock on Wood**)

Happy Hump Day!  :)

FO – Cat Sweater

2017-07-08_13-14-40_393

My first cat sweater is finished!  My actual cat is stunned by the awesomeness of his likeness.  Or he’s been possessed.  It could go either way at this point.

The pattern is called Professor Meow and I followed it, more or less.  My gauge was different so size adjustments were made.  And my one addition, the paw print on the back.

I made this one for my sister.  I’m making one for myself next.  It’s going to be identical.  I really don’t know what came over me.  It’s one thing to send crazy text messages about knitting us identical sweaters.  It’s another story entirely, to actually do it.

It’s just one of those things I couldn’t resist.  I’m still excited for it.  I thought my gusto for the project may have died about this point but I’ve cast mine on already, progress is being made!

I am making one change — needle size.  Instead of knitting the next size up, I’m going up in needle size.  I think it’s going to work out purrrrfectly!

Smooth Sailing

Professor Meow has hit the halfway point, according to plan.  I’ve probably just jinxed myself saying that.  So far, so good though.

I could complain about the intarsia, but really…

It looks worse than it really is.

The front is blocking and I’ve cast on the back piece.  I am going to veer off course though.  I can’t leave well enough alone.  It’s only going to be a moment. (fingers crossed)

The back, as written, is plain.  I’m going to add a little intarsia paw print.  I saw it on Ravelry and knew I had to steal the idea.  It’s barely a change at all.  It’s still just 16.5 monochromatic inches of stockinette stitch with no shaping.  I feel good that I’m not going to invoke the law of unintended consequences with this one.

That leaves me with nothing to complain about except purling.  I’m not even worked up about that.  I’ve got the week off work!  Funny how that changes things!  I’m looking forward to a creative & crafty week!

Professor Meow, the First

2017-05-25_11-41-46_374
Thursday

Just like April showers bring May flowers, a flurry of finishes is always followed by a cast on cornucopia!  First up…Professor Meow!  As you might guess from the name, it’s a cat sweater!

Turns out the phrase ‘cat sweater’ is a bit of a Rorschach test.  Most people have assumed I mean a sweater for a cat.

Friday

In reality, it’s a sweater with a cat on it.   And it’s another bulky knit so it’s going quickly.

WIP Wednesday Round Up

2017-05-23_17-52-41_333

Last time we talked about the sweater currently on the needles, it was having some trouble.  Happy to report I fixed the problem and was making good progress.  WAS.

Sadly, I encountered a fatal flaw.  The knitting is perfect.  This problem is a dumbass mistake.  I picked the wrong size to knit.  My size fell between two pattern sizes.  I decided to knit the larger one.  Except, when it comes to bulky yarn, a too big sweater can be a very poor choice.  I have enough bulk of my own.  I don’t need my clothes to add bulk.  And that’s what bulky sweaters do, especially if they’re a size too big.

Ooopps.  To the frog pond we go.

2017-05-23_17-57-41_935

Factor in the new box of yarn being delivered tomorrow, perfectly timed, just in advance of the three day weekend, containing yarn for the next sweater…this poor sweater had no chance.

I can’t wait!  I’m planning not just one, but TWO new sweaters with this new box of yarn.

Cat Sweaters!

2017-05-11_14-37-16_000

How am I supposed to resist that?  Especially when my sister agreed to a day of twinning, if I made sweaters for both of us.  I can’t wait!  I’m okay with being a crazy cat lady.  I’ll proudly declare it while knitting my cat sweater.   It’s not like I created the stereotype.  I promise to represent crazy knitting cat ladies everywhere properly!

Of course, I needed a new project in the interim.  I’m always ready to cast on!  This time, in a surprise twist, I cast on a new shawl. (<-not really a surprise)

2017-05-23_21-24-44_848

The yarn is KnitPicks Chroma Fingering, so it goes without saying, the colors are much better than my late night cell pic represents.  The pattern is Vee Vee by Mariana Martins.  It’s a triangle shawl that uses short rows to created a series of Vs in asymmetric rows.  With the Chroma, I think it’s going to look fabulous!

2017-05-16_17-41-51_387

Rocky is just glad I’m distracted from cat sweaters at the moment!  He’s trying to avoid the topic entirely!

Happy WIP Wednesday!  Hope you’re equally as excited about your impending weekend!
