FO Sunday

Two things about me…

First, I don’t like being told what to do.  (See:  my inability to follow a pattern.  I’m not gonna let a piece of paper tell me what to do!?!)

Second, I don’t like having my picture taken.

These two things are universal truths about me.  They have always been true and probably always will be.  This is me, in kindergarten.

2017-07-23_10-39-09_323 See?

This photo cracks me up every time.  I’m sure the photographer wanted me to smile.  I’m sure he tried to get me to smile.  Why would I care about that?  I don’t need to be part of the dog and pony show if I don’t want to be.  I’m not smiling and you can’t make me.  LOL.  It’s pretty amazing, actually, that I’ve changed so little.

And so, with that explanation, here’s today’s FO.

It’s another garter & brioche cowl with the yarn that shall not be named.  I just could not coax myself into smiling though.  I wasn’t feeling it.  OH well.  I tried.  I have a whole slew of pouting outtakes.  That’s just the way some days go.

I do feel bad for people who try to take pictures of me.  I don’t really help the process along.  Even when the photographer is me.  LOL.

And, the FO isn’t really that bad either.  While I detest working with the yarn that shall not be named, it’s a much better FO.  Wearing it, you’d never know the passion with which I hate this yarn.   The colors are lovely and there’s not an itch in sight.

As for the pattern, I improvised along the same lines as the last one, provisional cast on, a bit of garter stitch, a bit of brioche (only one color this time), a bit more garter, a bit more brioche, graft the ends together.

I did not intend for this cowl to become a Möbius but it did.  I sort of like it.  It’s certainly not offensive enough to undo it and re-graft it.  That leaves me with 3.5 balls of this yarn left.  I’m thinking another cowl, complete with Möbius modification.  Taller, longer…more around the shoulders.

SO many knitting plans, never enough time.  Happy Sunday!

Candy Dot Cowl

I really only meant to swatch.  Honest!  I was feeling good about finishing up some older WIPs.  It was going well, I had my eyes on the prize.  And then, Rainbows.

Rainbows derailed that plan quickly.  The irresistible rainbow-on-rainbow got me though.  I just could not stop!

It reminds me of Candy Dots.  Such fun!  Who didn’t love tiny bits of sugar with shreds of paper still stuck to the back, as a kid?  Even without the beads, this yarn is amazing…it’s so fun to knit rainbows.  Especially this weekend, it was a classic foggy San Francisco summer Fourth of July!  Just perfect!

Everyday is FO Day!

Turns out, I thrive with structure and scheduling.  I’m sure that explain my love of knitting–rows & columns are the definition of structure!  Jobs also provide a lovely habitual structure that I enjoy.  And, so far, my transition back to Working Stiff has gone great!  I’ve found my daily groove.  The schedule has fallen into place, including plenty of time to knit!

While I mostly hate the bus–the crowds, the smells, the noise–loud cellphone conversations and now it seems, streaming video–UGH!  I do enjoy dedicated knitting time.  Simple knitting on small projects at regular intervals results in lots and lots of instant gratification!  I really dislike riding the bus but I am loving the constant productivity.  And all the new FOs…like this cowl!

It looks a lot like the cowl I sent Mom for her birthday.  The yarn is the leftovers from that project, YOTH Yarns Big Sister Puppies.  The pattern is very similar as well, but I made one crucial modification.  I swapped out the original, more complicated lace pattern for an easier, bus friendly lace pattern.    The resulting mash-up practically knit itself!   Here’s my Ravelry page with all the details!  I used the shaping of Adama with the mesh pattern of Summer Flies.

At this rate, I think I’ll actually put a dent in the stash this year!
