WIP Wednesday – Marled Magic

Marled Magic Clue 3 is done!  I am still loving this so much.  That big section of seed stitch made me happy.  I think seed stitch is fun to do.

Now, I’m on to Clue 4.  A 600+ stitch i-cord bind off.  I also happen to think that is fun to do.  Especially when it’s neon peach!

It’s not like I’m saving the neon peach for something special?!?!  I think it’s just the thing to liven up some of the darker colors I used.  I’m about halfway.

And then, finally, the whole reason I wanted to knit this pattern…braiding the ends into a design feature rather than weaving them in!  Oh yeaaah!

And, I’ve already picked out yarn for the next one.  This was too fun to only knit once.

I’ve got a lot of blue & blue adjacent fingering weight yarn.

Marled Magic #2 isn’t actually going to be marled though.

The marl is accomplished with two strands of yarn held together.  The result is a very heavy shawl.  I’ve only knit the medium size to keep the weight down.  For #2, I’ll just use one strand of yarn and do stripes, maybe faded stripes.  And definitely knit the large size!!  It’s gonna so good!  …eventually!

Gotta finish that i cord first…

WIP Wednesday – Current Favs

The reality of 10 WIPs at once is most of them are actually being ignored.  The proverbial time out corner.  The back of the chair is the stuff that will most likely get finished.  The green project bags are my favorite to carry, so you’re likely to find my most active projects in them.  Today is no exception!

First, my beaded Hitchhiker…nearing the end!  The beads are an interesting modification to a classic design.  The workflow suits me, 6 mindless garter rows, a (yo, k2tog) row and then one row of focused attention adding the beads.  It’s been more of a go-to project than I expected.  I’m up to 32 teeth and I haven’t run out of beads yet.  I’m currently betting the yarn will run out first.   The end is in sight, either way!

The other project getting love this week, my Rockefeller.  It was on a bit of a hiatus but it’s happily back in business!

I’m currently slogging away on the 300+ stitch i-cord bind off.  Worth the effort but worthy of a little gripe too!  An hour at the beach the other day, an hour at knit night, an hour this morning…persistance is paying off.  I WILL get there.  And the next section tapers into a point…no bind off!  So I’m just getting the obligatory complaint out now :)  (don’t worry, I’m still saving the ‘oy! look at all these ends to weave complaint’ for later! )  The yarn is Sylph from Jade Sapphire, a cashmere-linen blend!  There will be no complaints when I’m finally wearing this one!

The Ravellenic Games (aka the knitting olympics) begin Friday, I’m fairly certain I can make it until then without casting on something new.  :)

Winning!

All that worry was for nothing!  I totally won this round of yarn chicken!  With yarn to spare even!  I’m checking the win column for just about everything else too!  I love the i-cord bind off cozied right up to my garter stitch stripes!  I absolutely love the stripes.  I’m trying to picture this shawl without them but I get bored halfway through and can’t do it!  I’m so glad I was ‘forced’ to add those stripes.  I’m loving the shlanket sizing, it’s definitely going to be big enough!

I’m even kinda sorta maybe liking the yellow!?!  Now let’s see if I can maintain all these loving vibrations through 4 more hours of i-cord bind off and 100 ends to weave! FO Friday…here I come!
