The cutest socks!

Now for the second half of the knitters knitting for knitters part of the swap!  The gift I was given!  In a perfect twist of fate, the knitter who chose me was the knitter I chose!

I got kitty socks!  They’re the YinYang Kitty Ankle Socks, a free pattern on Ravelry!

Without a doubt, the absolute best way to get hand knit socks is as a gift!  I have half a sock I haven’t touched since January.  Knitting them myself is certainly not the fastest option!  And these were even in my queue!

They’re the cutest little kitties!  I’ve been wearing as house socks.  I’d feel bad cramming them into shoes.  This is cuteness that needs to be shown off!

Thank you, Branka!  They’re awesome and I love them!

The last bit of awesomeness from our party…the cake!

It didn’t come from a store!  One of the knitter’s made it!!!  It’s chocolate on the inside and there aren’t enough superlatives to describe it.   It was delicious! My favorite part, though, is the care that went into the swatch.  Those stitches look like stitches.  They’re all pointing the right direction.  They’re all in rows and columns just like they should be.  There are four stitches in the swatch and correspondingly, four stitches on the needle.  The ball of yarn is attached to the swatch, in the right place no less.  All little details non-knitters don’t know about.

And now, it’s almost the weekend!  Wooohooo! I’m fading away on my Faded, Speckled, Dotted Rays for the Westknits’ Summer Fadealong!

2017-07-27_19-32-56_875

Color 4 is fading in.  It’s more Hedgehog Fibers.  I started off with Skinny Singles as the first color.  The last two colors have been Hedgehog Sock.  I don’t like the Sock as much as the Skinny Singles.   Of course, the Western Sky Knits MCN in the middle puts all the others to shame.  A little bit of cashmere really goes a long way!

My next color will have cashmere, an MCN from Magpie Fibers!!  Not sure I’ll get there this weekend.  I’ve gotten to the place where the rows are looooooooooooong.  I’m going to try though!

Hope you’ve got some fun weekend plans!  Happy Knitting!

Smooth Sailing

Professor Meow has hit the halfway point, according to plan.  I’ve probably just jinxed myself saying that.  So far, so good though.

I could complain about the intarsia, but really…

It looks worse than it really is.

The front is blocking and I’ve cast on the back piece.  I am going to veer off course though.  I can’t leave well enough alone.  It’s only going to be a moment. (fingers crossed)

The back, as written, is plain.  I’m going to add a little intarsia paw print.  I saw it on Ravelry and knew I had to steal the idea.  It’s barely a change at all.  It’s still just 16.5 monochromatic inches of stockinette stitch with no shaping.  I feel good that I’m not going to invoke the law of unintended consequences with this one.

That leaves me with nothing to complain about except purling.  I’m not even worked up about that.  I’ve got the week off work!  Funny how that changes things!  I’m looking forward to a creative & crafty week!

WIP Wednesday Round Up

2017-05-23_17-52-41_333

Last time we talked about the sweater currently on the needles, it was having some trouble.  Happy to report I fixed the problem and was making good progress.  WAS.

Sadly, I encountered a fatal flaw.  The knitting is perfect.  This problem is a dumbass mistake.  I picked the wrong size to knit.  My size fell between two pattern sizes.  I decided to knit the larger one.  Except, when it comes to bulky yarn, a too big sweater can be a very poor choice.  I have enough bulk of my own.  I don’t need my clothes to add bulk.  And that’s what bulky sweaters do, especially if they’re a size too big.

Ooopps.  To the frog pond we go.

Factor in the new box of yarn being delivered tomorrow, perfectly timed, just in advance of the three day weekend, containing yarn for the next sweater…this poor sweater had no chance.

I can’t wait!  I’m planning not just one, but TWO new sweaters with this new box of yarn.

Cat Sweaters!

2017-05-11_14-37-16_000

How am I supposed to resist that?  Especially when my sister agreed to a day of twinning, if I made sweaters for both of us.  I can’t wait!  I’m okay with being a crazy cat lady.  I’ll proudly declare it while knitting my cat sweater.   It’s not like I created the stereotype.  I promise to represent crazy knitting cat ladies everywhere properly!

Of course, I needed a new project in the interim.  I’m always ready to cast on!  This time, in a surprise twist, I cast on a new shawl. (<-not really a surprise)

2017-05-23_21-24-44_848

The yarn is KnitPicks Chroma Fingering, so it goes without saying, the colors are much better than my late night cell pic represents.  The pattern is Vee Vee by Mariana Martins.  It’s a triangle shawl that uses short rows to created a series of Vs in asymmetric rows.  With the Chroma, I think it’s going to look fabulous!

Rocky is just glad I’m distracted from cat sweaters at the moment!  He’s trying to avoid the topic entirely!

Happy WIP Wednesday!  Hope you’re equally as excited about your impending weekend!

Is it Caturday yet?

It’s the internet, isn’t every day Caturday?  Because progress shots of a stupid black hat are not that exciting, today I have cat pictures for your enjoyment!

I frequently have large piles of knitwear and yarn laying around.  The fur ball lays around quite a bit too.  Occasionally the two intersect.

It gets me every time, he’s just so cute sitting on a pile of yarn.

Cue the crazy cat lady music…

…because I saved the best for last!  My sister’s kitty still loves to dress up!  This is the latest picture I’ve gotten from her!  Because what else goes with a unicorn horn and a floral sundress but heart socks?

Friday Cat Chat

After relieving my own fur boy of his hat, I shipped it off to my sister.  She’s kind of a crazy cat lady.  I say that in the most loving and non-judgmental way because it turns out, we’re all crazy cat ladies.  The sheer volume of people who want to talk about cats in hats is staggering!  Don’t worry, I won’t name names, your secret is safe with me!  But seriously…we’re all crazy ladies, my sister included.  I’ve been collecting her texts for a week now…

This is Lily.  She’s the first and only one who’s mastered the art of the selfie.  It’s grainy and crooked, she looks tough!  she pretty much nailed it!    IMG_3455

Then there’s Bear.  He’s the youngest and the dumbest and the most eager to please.  He had fun playing for a bit!

And then there’s Ginger.  She’s the star of this show!  She likes getting dressed up.

Ginger really likes her new hat.  I’ve heard she’s taken to carrying it around in her mouth when she’s not wearing it and she takes it to bed with her.  So cute!  She’ll definitely be getting more hats!  A viking hat, a pink mohawk and maybe something with eyes and antennae are the top priorities!  Turns out I only need a very teensy bump to bring out my crazy cat lady!

Happy Birthday Rocky!

Yesterday my furry little friend, Rocky, had a birthday!  This is him on a normal day…

11078157_10206812310808956_9063543370105303671_nJust chillin’ in his box.  Yesterday was not just a normal day though.  Rocky turned 15!  That’s an occasion to party!  And by party, I mean knit!  Out came the needles and in less than hour, Rocky got a new party hat…

IMG_3255

He was a very willing model.  I think that means he likes it!  What are the chances he was just paralyzed by fear?

IMG_3253

And now that it’s not Rocky’s birthday anymore, I’m taking his new hat away (that’s the actual gift! ha!) and sending it to my sister.  It’s the perfect accessory to go with the skull and crossbones t-shirt her cat wears.  The pattern is from the book Cats in Hats.  Yup, an entire book of cat hat patterns!  There’s a pattern preview on the ScooterKnits blog.  I used the base hat and improvised the mohawk fringe with a crochet hook!  It was a fun little project!  I can see myself knitting a few more of these, one for every holiday, maybe turn the photos into a ‘Rocky in Hats’ wall calendar to give as Christmas gifts this year.   Oops, my crazy cat lady almost showed!
