Sweater in Progress

It’s been 10 days and I’m fully into the swing of things here at toddler central.  It’s snowed a couple times.  We put up the Christmas tree.  It’s all going according to plan.  Even my latest sweater is nearing completion and looking good.

It’s taken several nap times to do the seaming but it was worth forgoing my own nap.  I was even lucky enough to get a bit of cooperation when I wanted a preliminary fitting!  Thanks to my adorable model, I’m confident it’s going to be the cutest sweater ever.

Here’s the details:  The yarn is Malabrigo Rios, washable for Mommy and soft for little man.  The pattern is called Northgate Tweed Sweater.  Of course, I’ve changed it up.  It originally called for stranded knitting but I wasn’t in the mood.  I switched it to a mosaic pattern that I pulled from a Vogue Stitchionary.  I’m pleased with that substitution.

The other change came at seaming time.  The pattern calls for ‘backstitch’.  I’m not even sure how you’d backstitch knit pieces to form a seam?  I think the designer is Australian so maybe terminology is different there.  Needless to say, I ignored that bit and went with mattress stitch.

The only part left now is to finish the neckline.  The pattern calls for a shawl collar but I’m not doing that.  Partly because I think a shawl collar will irritate a sensitive neck but mostly because I’m nearly out of yarn.  I’m thinking I’ll do a quick pick up and bind off.   Super easy, no muss, no fuss.  Just in time for the perfect holiday pics in front of the tree!  Stay tuned for those…(what could possibly go wrong?)
